Train Horn Compatible with Makita 18V LXT Battery

Connect your battery. Leave the installation behind.

This horn is designed as a self-contained portable device. The handle, trigger and air-compressor assembly are already together; there is no need for vehicle wiring, a separate installed air system or a Makita drill.

To prepare it, screw the trumpets into the base by hand and connect a compatible 18V LXT battery. No extra tools are needed for that assembly. One Quick Start Guide accompanies every horn.

Several configurations on one battery platform

Choose Apex Dual, Apex Quad or a Classic model to select the trumpet arrangement you prefer. The description here covers the Makita-compatible family, while the model controls show your selected photos, price and package.

Two-trumpet horns provide two volume settings. Four- and five-trumpet versions provide three. The supplied standard remote works at up to 300 ft; the optional long-range remote is rated up to 2,000 ft. Obstacles and radio interference affect actual range.

A housing designed around the working components

We moved from modified power-tool bodies to our own purpose-built housing in mid-2026. Its internal layout holds the compressor motor securely and lets us assemble the horn without stripping the motor, gearbox and switches out of a donor tool.

Powder-coated metal-alloy trumpets deliver durable construction and resistance to rust and corrosion. The custom control board, first introduced in mid-2025 after about a year of development and roughly ten iterations, supports the current controls and protection functions.

Control the sound and protect the motor

Select the available volume level to suit how you are using the horn, and operate it through the trigger or remote. The board tracks motor operating time to manage heat and reduce overheating failures.

If a cooling lockout occurs, keep the battery connected and wait about 10 minutes. Removing the battery pauses the timer: after reconnecting, allow 10–15 minutes even if the motor already feels cool. The horn does not need you to reset the timer manually.

Battery protection goes beyond the trigger

The electronics monitor voltage both when starting and while powering the motor. A low-voltage condition stops operation before the motor continues draining a depleted battery. Radio-receiver power management addresses the standby load separately.

Choose Always on, Always off or Standard receiver mode. Standard keeps the receiver active for three hours from battery connection or the latest horn activation, then switches it off. Each new use starts a fresh three-hour window.

Storage, support and the included package

Testing of Standard mode showed that a connected battery can remain protected against deep-discharge damage for months, and for over a year in some tested conditions. We recommend disconnecting after use to prevent unexpected radio activation.

Your USA-assembled horn includes a standard remote, Quick Start Guide and 1-year warranty. Supply a compatible Makita 18V LXT battery and charger, or add the optional compatible accessories to your order.

At the handle or from a distance

• Built-in trigger: press the trigger on the horn handle to activate it.
• Included wireless remote: up to 300 ft range.
• Optional long-range remote: up to 2,000 ft range, sold separately.

Radio range depends on obstacles, interference and the surrounding environment.

Selectable volume

Sound adjustment is part of the horn’s own controls. Select the available level on your LXT-compatible configuration to suit your use.

Your selected model: 3 volume levels. Two-trumpet models have two levels; four- and five-trumpet models have three.

Understand the cooling lockout

The horn manages compressor heat through operating-time control. A temporary lockout gives the motor a cooling interval before operation resumes.

1. Leave the battery connected. Allow about 10 minutes before continuing.
2. If you removed the battery during lockout, reconnect it. Wait 10–15 minutes for the cooling timer to finish, even if the motor has already cooled.

Battery protection at startup and in standby

Battery protection covers both active use and radio standby, with separate control of the motor load and receiver supply.

• Motor voltage checks: the board checks battery voltage at startup and during operation. Low voltage prevents the motor from draining a depleted pack further.
• Receiver power management: radio standby power is controlled separately to reduce the drain associated with leaving a receiver on continuously.

Standard

The receiver stays active for three hours after connecting the battery or sounding the horn. Every activation starts a new three-hour window; after it expires, the receiver switches off automatically.

After use: disconnect the battery before storage to help prevent unintended activation from radio signals.
